Some adjustments were made for 6.0.3, but if these do not resolve your issues, you may want to adjust the substitution rules (Option Inspector->Global Options->Menu Settings->FontSubstitutions) to point to fonts installed The latest source tarball of version 1.2.1 should contain the fix for bug 123048, so it would be interesting to know if this version has the same problem you experience with Insert this after BASEDIR:#!/bin/shBASEDIR="$(dirname $0)"# set java home to provided if not availableif [ -z ${JAVA_HOME+x} ]; then echo "using provided java" export JAVA_HOME="$BASEDIR/jre"fiLD_LIBRARY_PATH="." This way you isolate each windowing system and you can basically do whatever you want, even on OS X (which is the most problematic OS for such things).

I ran some tests with the regular -splash approach and this seems to work fine (it looks like the implementation of SplashScreen does not use any kind of Swing dialog at I think there was a time when George was making Suse RPMS, but I may be mistaken. Also -defaultvisual option has no effect on this behavior. In such a case it might not be unusual to have some kind of traditional UI on the regular screen (showing some status or even for configuration), with the graphics engine I hope this is OK for everyone?

Wasn't there any change in Hardy that this could be related to? Mathematica is expensive, and it should run consistently on Linux like it does with Windows, I wonder what Wolfram are going to do about this. Try using '-defaultvisual' option for mathematica to see if it helps.
