this time I simply deleted the corrupt Firewall.cpl away. I have been trying to use the helpful advice shared by members to fix my problem but have been unsuccessful. I cannot access the internet from my broken laptop as the computer crashes before windows even loads. I recently downloaded a windows update but when my computer restarted and attempted to install the 3 pack update my computer crashed.

The key to this whole process is the realization that you can reinstall an existing Vista installation from an Anytime Upgrade DVD. Repeat the steps from 1 to 7 and type the recorded problem file name in step 5.
